Who the hell am I, you may ask?
I'm Mark Allen: 4WDer, camper, tourer, adventurer, camper trailer owner, caravan owner, ex-hubby... that didn't work eh!, Engineering Surveyor (in another life), business owner, tax payer and photojournalist to many 4x4, 4WD, caravan, camper trailer and outdoorsy type magazines in Australia, plus a couple overseas. Ex editor of Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures magazine.
Plus, editor and publisher of VentureMax.com.au ... the perfect storm of outdoors adventure.
As well as all that, I am also the Director / accounts manager / do every-bloody-thing hands on Owner of

Nah, I'm not another Chip-On-The-Shoulder journo that lays claim to being a know-it-all that can only regurgitate facts and figures from a brochure. Our land is full of those types of clowns that have no idea and and only get their info from internet searches. I find it hilarious the number of fellas, and a few sheilas that work in this industry, that bill themselves out as experts in their field, when in fact (yes I know for fact) they know Jack Shit and have experienced little of what they preach first hand.
I find it even funnier the number of Cling-Ons in the general 4WD industry that lay claim to be bloody know-it-alls just because they have met (and therefore are best mates) with some of the industry's true life-qualified outdoorsy Journos.
...anyway, I don't claim to know everything about every subject and yes I have to research many of my articles and assignments by asking the relevant people the correct questions, BUT, I can assure you, I live the life I write about.
All the articles you find on this site have been published in one magazine or another, so you may have already seen a few. If not, have a good read and hopefully you'll learn a thing or two, get a little light hearted entertainment from them, have a good belly laugh or perhaps even disagree totally with what I've said.
Either way, I hope you enjoy yourself. If you don't, I don't really give a stuff as there are too many other things to worry about!
